A Framework for an Encountering Church

The United Reformed Church has committed itself to Catch the Vision: a radical review of our life and activity. The Catch the Vision process is a key moment in our life. It is a time to face words of judgement as well as feed upon words of grace; an opportunity to become open to what God has for us to do; a chance to re-shape ourselves so that we are a sign, expression and anticipation of God's power, presence and promise; an invitation to reconstitute ourselves so that we can faithfully fulfil our calling to re-present to others the claim which is placed upon the lives of everyone and the whole cosmos by God. Above all else, Catch the Vision is the occasion within the short life of the United Reformed Church when we have been given the opportunity prayerfully and humbly to await the work God has for us, as we plumb the rich depths of scripture and tradition in order to be led by the Spirit into fresh ways of being church. What does it mean to be an encountering church whose local congregations make a difference to the lives of people, societies and even the world? That mission, God's invitation to become a people who encounter others with a distinctive message and way of life, will only become clear to us as we renew our encounter with God.
