The Revd Dr David Peel

Revd David Peel

David was born and educated in Keighley, West Yorkshire. After leaving Keighley Boys' Grammar School he graduated in Chemistry from the University of London (BSc) and then prepared for ministry at the Congregational College, Manchester (BD) and Perkins School of Theology, Dallas, Texas (STM). Membership of Knowle Park Congregational Church, living at New College in London, and involvement with Congregational Youth provided a challenging context within which a call to ministry was heard and accepted. He was the first chair of FURY.

After twelve years of pastoral ministry at Toiler, Kettering and in Stockton-on Tees, David became Tutor for Community-based Training at Northern College, Manchester (1988), concerned with developing theological reflection and practical skills needed for the ministry, in active collaboration with local communities and churches. He became Principal of the College in 1993 and helped develop a programme as intellectually rigorous as it was rooted in practice.

David gained his PhD from the University of Manchester for a study of the theology of his American tutor Schubert Ogden. He has published Reforming Theology (2002), Ministry for Mission (2003) and numerous articles. Feeling called to more grass-roots involvement, while maintaining a presence in theological education, David returned to the North East in 2003 to undertake the twin roles of Strategy Development

Officer in Northern Synod and Director of Traditional Theology for the North East Oecumencial Course.

David and Pat, his wife, have two children, Andrew a research biologist at Cambridge and Heidi who works at The University of Manchester. He enjoys classical music, bird watching and collecting cricket autographs.
